MINSK, 25 May (BelTA) – The House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus of the seventh convocation has adopted a statement on the incident with the Belarusian state flag in Latvia, BelTA has learned.
“Members of the Council of the Republic and the House of Representatives of the Belarusian National Assembly were outraged to learn about the actions against the state flag of the Republic of Belarus in Riga. This act is a continuation of Latvia's unfriendly policy towards Belarus. The National Assembly considers this to be a violation of international law,” the statement stresses. The document also points out that the provocative actions of the Latvian officials destroy the remnants of trust and good relations between the two countries, fueling tensions and putting off the normalization of relations indefinitely. “It should be noted that Latvia's actions have not sparked outrage in European countries. It is such silent agreement that destroys the universal foundations of international relations. The Belarusian National Assembly wants the Latvian authorities to take measures to prevent any actions meant to destabilize the situation in international relations immediately,” the statement reads.
Such actions are unacceptable. They demonstrate the absence of true state traditions in these countries, stressed Andrei Savinykh, the Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs of the House of Representatives. “Today we can say that apart from the infamous citizens with low social responsibility, Europe has more and more politicians with low political responsibility,” he added.
