MINSK, 22 January (BelTA) - Foreigners, fighting in Ukraine, have the opportunity to break the contract at any time, so there is a high turnover of Belarusian mercenaries, Vasily Veremeichik, a mercenary who participated in the hostilities in Ukraine as a member of the Kalinovsky Regiment, recognized as a terrorist organization in Belarus, said in an interview to Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian mercenary fled Ukraine to Lithuania, from there to Vietnam where he was arrested and extradited under a criminal case.
Answering the question about the number of fighters of the Kalinovsky Regiment, Vasily Veremeichik said that there is “quite a high turnover of personnel”. “Why? A foreigner has the opportunity to break the contract and leave at any moment. Accordingly, people come and see quite different from what they see in movies, games, cartoons or TikTok. They get disappointed - they either get scared, or get injured and leave. Basically, at the peak of the Kalinovsky Regiment had about 300 fighters. Probably more than a thousand people passed through it over this time. Not only through the Kalinovsky Regiment, but also through various structures of the VSU. I mean Belarusians,” Vasily Veremeichik said.
According to him, initially, the mercenaries had Soviet weapons and Western anti-tank weapons. At the moment Belarusian mercenaries fight mainly with weapons of NATO countries - Czechia, Belgium, the USA, and Sweden.
