Head of CIS mission comments on preparation for parliamentary, local elections in Belarus

MINSK, 6 February, (BelTA) - Preparations for the elections of deputies to the House of Representatives and local councils in Belarus are proper, head of the CIS observation mission Leonid Anfimov told the media before a meeting with Belarus’ Deputy Prosecutor General Maksim Voronin to discuss the preparations for the single voting day, BelTA has learned.

Judging by the information provided by the long-term observers, we can say that the conditions are proper, the necessary campaign materials and voter lists are available, the district election commissions provide explanations to citizens about the upcoming vote", said Leonid Anfimov, giving a preliminary assessment of the preparations for the single voting day.

Commenting on today's meeting at the Prosecutor General's Office, Leonid Anfimov noted that, in accordance with the established practice, during an election campaign letters are sent to the appropriate state bodies that ensure law and order during elections and that consider complaints from citizens, including candidates to the Parliament, about possible violations of the legislation.

At the meeting, Maksim Voronin noted the constructive cooperation between the Prosecutor's Office and the CIS observation mission. According to him, the mission is extremely important for the assessment and monitoring of the elections. "Accordingly, we have a common interest in ensuring legality," he said.
