MINSK, 27 February (BelTA) – The certification of Belarusian-made products for halal and kosher standards has gained momentum, First Deputy Chairwoman of the Belarusian State Committee for Standardization Yelena Morgunova said in a new episode of BelTA’s The Nation Speaks project highlighting the topic "The Year of Quality - Made in Belarus!"

According to her, the Belarusian State Accreditation Center, which is part of the state standardization system, has signed memorandums of understanding and cooperation with specialized organizations of the United Arab Emirates.

"Our accreditation center is also a full member of the International Halal Accreditation Forum (IHAF). We introduced an accreditation process in Belarus, which enables domestic enterprises to confirm the compliance of halal products and to supply them without hindrance. As a result of this cooperation, 65 domestic enterprises have Halal certificates of compliance with the requirements of the UAE. Work is also underway to gain a foothold on the halal markets in other Persian Gulf states, including Indonesia, Pakistan, and Iran," Yelena Morgunova said.

There are quite a lot of enterprises in Belarus that have received certificates of compliance with halal and kosher requirements, Yelena Morgunova added. "This is especially true for meat and dairy products. Halal products are quite in demand and the requirements for them are strict. BelHalal is the only accredited certification body for audits in Belarus," Yelena Morgunova noted.
