Governor: Local authorities need to develop an attractive investment climate

VOLKOVYSK, 14 June (BelTA) - Local authorities need to develop an attractive investment climate in their areas, Grodno Oblast Governor Yuri Karayev told the media on 14 June, BelTA has learned.

Grodno Oblast is implementing 25 under the One District - One Project program, Yuri Karayev said. This will help retain people in small towns and villages.

“People always follow good salaries. Some places are good. 123 workplaces for a small area. There is already another issue: where can we find the workforce? For example, people from Volkovysk travel to Svisloch to work,” the governor said.

Along with the salary growth in regions, the services sector keeps developing, which also has a positive impact on employment.

", small sewing factories were set up in villages of Ivye District. Housewives who used to stay at home (they were not milkmaids or agricultural specialists) have come to these enterprises to work as seamstresses. They don't earn much, but they are now employed,” Yuri Karayev said. “There are different projects. Most of them are private enterprises. They are inventive, flexible, and eager to make money. It is good for us: let them provide these jobs. Our people will earn money, pay taxes, and spend money in stores.”

The governor added that not all projects are successful. The task of the regional executive committee and district executive committees is to guide investors in a timely manner.

“The main person here is the chairperson of the district executive committee, who creates a micro-investment climate. An investor comes to him expecting support and protection. Of course, this is not about the protection against law enforcement agencies. Everyone must work honestly and transparently. In other words, it is very important for investors that the loval authorities treat them loyally and show their interest. After all, people work here. They have families here. Their children go to school here. People associate their lives with their small homeland,” Yuri Karayev added.
