MINSK, 16 August (BelTA) – Belarusian army units, which are deployed in the southern area, have been significantly reinforced after the provocation in Russia’s Kursk Oblast, BelTA learned from Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Belarus Pavel Muraveiko after the government conference hosted by the head of state to discuss military security.

Pavel Muraveiko said: “I can say objectively that at present the composition of the forces and assets deployed at the border is bigger than before. It ensures adequate counteraction of any attacks and provocations.”

In his words, the military presence is now bigger than it was about one month ago when Belarus had to reinforce the units deployed in the southern area in response to actions of the Ukrainian side.

“The massive headline-making provocation carried out by Ukrainian Armed Forces in the territory of the Russian Federation in Kursk Oblast has made us revise the composition of the forces and assets that we use to ensure our security. We’ve reinforced the air defense force. Because unmanned aerial units fly into our airspace more frequently now. We’ve enabled the necessary conditions for deploying units with heavy weapons. We are adequately ready to respond to provocations like those in Kursk [Oblast of Russia]. We control our state border. We’ve beefed up reconnaissance forces and assets. We are accumulating certain reserves and capabilities for creating and deploying force groupings,” Pavel Muraveiko said.
