#GBCregions forum kicks off in Gomel

GOMEL, 16 September (BelTA) - The first regional forum #GBCregions has kicked off in Gomel, BelTA has learned.

The forum gathered about 200 participants, including heads of government bodies and organizations, regional and district executive committees, representatives of IT companies, banks, businesses, and educational institutions.

The idea of holding a digital forum in the regions came after a similar event took place in Minsk. “After all, our regions are not lagging behind the capital city, and in some parameters they can even be ahead of it. It is no coincidence that Gomel was chosen as the first regional venue to host the forum. Many interesting projects are implemented here and it is important to tell everybody about them. Besides, Gomel is one of the flagships in the country's IT sector,” said Tatiana Turomsha, First Deputy Director of the National Traffic Exchange Center.

This dialogue platform raises the issues of information security, development of e-government infrastructure, the introduction of biometric documents, including ID-cards, the introduction of the Smart City concept at the regional level, improving IT-literacy of society, as well as the implementation of projects of government agencies and organizations in information and communication technologies.

According to Tatiana Turomsha, digital forums will be held in all regional centers this year. A unique program will be developed for each of them and speakers will be invited taking into account the peculiarities of the projects implemented in the regions.

The forum is held under the sponsorship of the Operative Analytical Center under the President and the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee. The organizers are the National Traffic Exchange Center, the National Center of Electronic Services, and the Belarusian Cloud Technologies.
