MINSK, 25 October (BelTA) – Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus Oleg Gaidukevich will run for president. He announced this decision as he spoke to the First News Channel, BelTA reports.
“Our party has never missed a single election campaign since 1994. We have always taken part in elections as we sought to strengthen the constitutional order, to make sure that elections are held in a calm and properly way, without foreign meddling, so that people enjoy election campaigns. During the campaigning, we are going to raise issues that concern people. There must be healthy competition, debate. Therefore, I want to announce in this studio that I have decided to run for president from the Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus. We will put together an initiative group and collect signatures,” Oleg Gaidukevich said.
“I also want to say frankly: our enemies, these Western powers hate our president, because he kept the country together. He preserved sovereignty, strengthened it, did not sell it out. Therefore, we are taking part in the election in order to strengthen the country,” added Oleg Gaidukevich.
