MINSK, 20 January (BelTA) – The Yanka Kupala National Academic Theater of Belarus has performed Nikolai Gogol's The Government Inspector staged by Nikolai Pinigin to a full house in Vilnius, BelTA learned from the theater.
The Government Inspector is one of the most popular plays in the repertoire of the theater that has been nominated for the National Theater Award in three categories. The theater took to stage with the play in the Russian Drama Theater of Lithuania on 19 January. All tickets had been sold out several days ahead of the performance.
Lithuania has become the first country to host the Yanka Kupala Theater during its 2020 European tour. Attending the performance were representatives of the Lithuanian general public and the Belarusian diaspora as well as fans of the Belarusian theater from other countries who happened to be in Vilnius at the time. “The audience welcomed our actors with great excitement and gratitude,” the theater said.
The European tour of the Yanka Kupala Theater will continue with the play Harvest (staged by Pavel Pryazhko, directed by Dmitry Tishko) in Moscow on 22 January. The Government Inspector will travel to Daugavpils on 19 March. The performance in Vilnius was organized with support of the Belarusian Embassy in Lithuania.
