MINSK, 29 December (BelTA) – Four Minskers diagnosed with the Omicron variant are on self-isolation at home, Belarusian Deputy Healthcare Minister, Chief Sanitary Inspector Aleksandr Tarasenko told reporters, BelTA has learned.
“They are self-isolating at home. They do not need hospital treatment so far, they are under medical supervision,” Aleksandr Tarasenko said.
The four Belarusian nationals are the first confirmed cases of the new variant in Belarus. All of the infected have mild symptoms. “The patients are aged 20 to 46 years and are not vaccinated against the coronavirus infection,” the press service of the Healthcare Ministry added.
“None of them had a vaccine shot. One of them caught the infection for the second time within two months which may suggest that not everyone develops post-COVID immunity or this immunity does not occur after every case or when it does, it is not potent enough. Therefore, the Healthcare Ministry persistently and strongly recommends getting a jab,” Aleksandr Tarasenko said.
