MINSK, 30 March (BelTA) - Sergei Savchuk, former head of the border outpost in Kobrin District recounted his meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in the Our People [Svoi] project on the STV TV channel, BelTA learned.
In 2018, the head of state visited the Divin border outpost in Kobrin District. The president's attention was focused on issues of border security, state border protection measures and the work of demarcation along the border with Ukraine. The head of state pointed out that the main thing is to ensure that people are not inconvenienced. Since Soviet times, Ukrainians have traditionally gathered berries on Belarusian territory.

An important part of the president's visit to the border outpost was his interaction with border guards and their families. Among them was Sergei Savchuk, head of the border outpost. Now he is the head of the state border protection department at the Mozyr border detachment.

The president's visit coincided with the birthday of Sergei Savchuk's wife, Kseniya. Sergei Savchuk recalled that though there were no special preparations or events planned, the border outpost was ready for the head of state's visit. The outpost was cleaned, but that was a common practice, Sergei Savchuk noted.
"We had a general plan of which rooms the president would visit and what reports the officials delivered. That was it. Everything went according to plan until the meeting with families. After that, things went off the rails. We had no specific restrictions or guidelines on what was allowed," Sergei Savchuk explained.
As a border guard, Sergei Savchuk believes it is always important to make on-site visits and stay close to the border. Evaluating the situation at the borders can't be done fully from an office. Sergei Savchuk is convinced that the success of any border guard lies in the actions taken right at the border.
"The success of the border service depends on how things are handled at border outposts, checkpoints and control divisions," Sergei Savchuk stated.
