MINSK, 16 February (BelTA) - The referendum on the amendments and additions to the Constitution will become a major milestone in the development of the Belarusian state, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said at a press conference in Minsk on 16 February, BelTA has learned.
“The constitutional process was important and to some extent decisive for Belarus in 2021. The upcoming referendum will be a milestone in the development and further establishment of the Belarusian state. I am absolutely convinced that this evolutionary way of transforming the Basic Law objectively meets our national interests and also the interests of all our neighbors and partners. Unfortunately, not all of them are able to understand this,” the minister said.
In his words, the new draft Constitution is not perfect, but there is no such thing as a perfect Constitution. “This new draft Constitution lays a solid foundation for further progressive, evolutionary growth, creates a system of so-called protections against any shocks to the state and society. This is absolutely obvious to me,” said Vladimir Makei.
