MINSK, 21 January (BelTA) – Minsk is hosting the nationwide public and cultural campaign Marathon of Unity, BelTA informs.
Vadim Shepet, a popular radio host, played the accordion in the hall of the railway station. The composition he performed about the president has become one of the highlights of the Time Chose Us concerts. In the Marathon of Unity host cities it was performed by the military choir. This time the song was sung by dozens of people at the railway station in the Belarusian capital.
“The Marathon of Unity came to Minsk with a huge number of events: exhibitions, flash mobs, concerts. Certainly, I am very happy to take part in the opening of a unique exhibition of gifts to the president from the labor collectives of our country. This is a unique experience. The exhibits from the Palace of Independence are travelling around the country. This wonderful idea belongs to the organizers of the marathon,” Natalya Eismont said.
The press secretary stressed that the museum of gifts in the Palace of Independence houses over 1,000 exhibits. “Tens of thousands of people visit the Palace of Independence every year on tours. They are always welcomed there. I would like to note that gifts in the Palace of Independence are always a matter of interest for our visitors, including foreign ones. Many of our Russian friends and guests from the whole post-Soviet space come to visit us and, when they see the museum of gifts, they always say: 'We do not have anything like this.' This is certainly very pleasant to hear,” she added.
“I would like to say that this is not the first experience of interaction [of the National Library of Belarus] with the Palace of Independence. Another exhibition, which traveled all over the country, was Books Gifted to the President. It is a unique collection of editions presented to the head of state not only by foreign politicians, statesmen, but also by public figures, journalists, artists. It helps to reveal both the inner world of the president and our era. We can say exactly the same about the exhibition of gifts to the head of state,” Vadim Gigin said.
Stands and tables feature more than seven dozen unique developments from physics, radio materials, aviation, materials science, genetics, chemistry, microbiology, food, instrumentation, and history.
A new wall mural titled Belarus’ Future is in Your Hands was unveiled in Minsk as part of the nationwide campaign Marathon of Unity on 20 January.
“This wonderful holiday brings a good mood. It makes you think about the future. There is faith and hope that the sad events that are happening in the world will not affect us. Of course, we want to believe that very soon there will be a peaceful time for our neighbors, too,” said Zoya Stakhovskaya, Head of the Production Laboratory of Non-Destructive Testing of the Technical Control Department of Minsk Carriage Repair Plant.
Aleksandr Zabello, Minskkhlebprom Director General, emphasized the significance of such meetings and the unusual format of the project. “The meeting let employees communicate with the management and enjoy the concert. This is important for the workers, because the company’s development plans and social programs are often known only to a narrow circle - deputy managers, heads of departments and divisions. Ordinary employees sometimes remain not fully informed, despite various meetings,” he said.
The children unanimously say: they have heard about the large-scale public and cultural campaign, which has traveled 15 Belarusian cities, watched it on TV, read about it and are glad to finally become a part of it. The students also know about the election campaign taking place in the country. Despite the fact that it is still a bit early for them to vote, the boys and girls consider it important to stay informed about the latest events in the country, and the Marathon of Unity helps them do it.
“Minsk is the only megacity in Belarus. More than a fifth of the population of our country are Minskers. Minsk is a phoenix city. It burned to the ground and was reborn 18 times, each time rising from the ashes even stronger. Minsk is a symbol of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. 1,100 days of struggle and feat of Minsk underground fighters. Thanks to the labor feat of the people, it turned into an industrial and cultural center in the shortest possible time. In 1947 MAZ produced the first truck, MAZ-205, which was then used in the reconstruction of Minsk,” Natalya Petkevich said.
