First-grade school enrollment projected at 105,000 in Belarus in 2024/25 academic year

MINSK, 7 August (BelTA) – More than 105,000 first-grade students are expected to enroll in Belarus in the new academic year 2024/25, Director of the National Institute of Education Valentina Ginchuk said in a new episode of BelTA’s The Nation Speaks project.

“In the new academic year, the general school enrollment will be 1.72 million students (grades 1-11). We also expect more than 105,000 first-graders this school year. The figures are almost the same as last year," Valentina Ginchuk said.

Brest Secondary School No. 11 is one of the largest institutions of general secondary education. In the new academic year it will enroll 3,220 students. "We are enrolling 228 students and will run nine first-grade classes. Our school is overcrowded. However things are easier for me as the director than for other because the school is new. We have the most modern catering facilities, equipment, two dining halls for 350 and 140 seats. This helps a lot. As usual, the largest classes are those of first-and second-graders and also fifth-graders. When the school opened, we had 18 classes of fifth-graders. But we overcame all the difficulties. In the new academic year the situation will be similar,” the director of the school Lyudmila Kudey explained.
