MINSK, 17 December (BelTA) - A regular meeting of the standing seminar at the Parliamentary Assembly on “Topical Issues of Demographic Policy in the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation” took place on 16 December. Taking part in the video conference were MPs of the Parliamentary Assembly, representatives of the Standing Committee of the Belarus-Russia Union State, the Healthcare Ministries, the Labor and Social Security Ministries Belarus and Russia, experts from scientific and educational institutions of the two countries, BelTA learned from the press service of the Parliamentary Assembly.
“The participants of the meeting made presentations on public healthcare and demography, highlighted medical ways of solving the demographic problem and gave economic arguments in favor of investing in people's health, discussed priority areas in strengthening the family institution, stimulating fertility, and shared their experience in applying social support measures for families with children in Belarus and Russia,” the press service said.
During the seminar it was noted that increasing the demographic potential and improving the health of the population of Belarus and Russia is the most important factor in the development of the Union State. Demographic wellbeing of the two countries should be ensured by the development of a set of measures to stabilize the population, increase the birth rate and reduce mortality. Activities to strengthen the institution of the family, as well as the formation of conditions in which the family will feel confident in the future and protected from the risks associated with the birth of a child or several children in the family should become the most important priorities in the implementation of the state policy.
The seminar resulted in the drafting of recommendations for the Healthcare Ministries and Labor and Social Security Ministries of Belarus and Russia, in which the experts reflected the main priorities, goals and tasks in the field of demographic policy. The document will be finalized based on the seminar proposals and will be submitted to the participants of the session, and also to the interested ministries and agencies. The recommendations will be published on the website of the Parliamentary Assembly.
