Expert warns Western deployment in Ukraine would escalate situation

MINSK, 26 August (BelTA) – The deployment of Western troops in Ukraine will make the situation even worse than it was before the start of the special military operation in Ukraine, Russian military observer of the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper, Colonel (retired) Viktor Baranets said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“A new war-prolonging factor is emerging. If this European factor comes into play, the war could go on for 10 or even 20 years. They [the Europeans] also want to intervene in resolving this conflict. But the question is: who will represent Europe? Zelensky drags this European ‘pack’ behind him, pardon my language. After hearing these arguments, Moscow replied: ‘Can we also expand our delegation? Fair enough, isn’t it?” Viktor Baranets stated.

The expert recalled that in response to corresponding statements from Kiev, Russia suggested including China in the security guarantees, which was rejected by Vladimir Zelensky.

“And now look at those who want to deploy their contingents in Ukraine. After all, no one is asking Russia about anything, as if this issue is already settled. But this makes us see a different perspective on the situation,” Viktor Baranets said. “They [Western military contingents] will join combat operations and will certainly raise the question for Russia of how to respond to this.”

In his opinion, the deployment of such contingents in Ukraine will make the situation much worse than it was before the start of the special military operation in Ukraine: “What are we fighting for then? Why are we holding these negotiations? The West is obstructing the search for any mutually acceptable solutions.”
