MINSK, 13 March (BelTA) – The USA will not be able to pry Russia away from China, military and political observer Mikhail Onufriyenko said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“Attempts to split Russia and China will continue. But the point is that China is governed by reasonable people. The very system of power under the leadership of the Communist Party presupposes continuity, for decades to come. Unlike the United States, they do not think in terms of four-year or eight-year cycles (in case of re-election). China thinks decades ahead,” Mikhail Onufriyenko said.
According to the observer, the Chinese leadership has a full understanding that the current world order is pushing China toward an eternal alliance with Russia. “No one will start hostilities against these two nuclear powers. Besides, the colossal mineral reserves in Russia guarantee that Chinese industries will be supplied with what they need. Everyone realizes that this is much more profitable than war and conflict. Russia and China, in fact, have nothing to fight over. The vast expanse of Russia, with a population that is 10% of the Chinese, defines the mentality and character of Russians. We do not need foreign land, we have enough of our own,” he emphasized.
Mikhail Onufriyenko added, Russia is not going to expand influence in India, Pakistan or Afghanistan. “Russia does not need this headache. Why do we need these long-term problems when we have plenty of land, plenty of minerals? Besides, we have the Northern Sea Route, which China needs very badly,” the expert added.
