"On Point"
MINSK, 10 September (BelTA) – The West’s reaction to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin can be described as “military-political jealousy”, Igor Korotchenko, Russian journalist and military expert, editor-in-chief of the Russian National Defense Magazine, said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA's YouTube channel.
Commenting on the recent SCO summit, he characterized the Western response as “military-political jealousy”. According to him, Western politicians recognize that the world is changing, with new meanings and centers of power emerging. This explains the rather nervous reaction to the SCO events in Tianjin.
“Today, the Asia-Pacific region is the driver of economic growth. In this context, the rise of China and the countries of the Global South is the mainstream of global politics. Europe’s decline is accompanied by rather aggressive actions from its elites,” the expert stated. “But it’s no longer possible to change the course of history, because these are the vectors of modern development. In the new global world, there will be no hegemons. The countries of the Global South are forming alliances that will protect them from any attempts to tighten the noose around their economies through tariffs, duties, or sanctions.”
Igor Korotchenko believes that this is precisely why the West has shown such keen interest in the SCO’s activities.
As it was previously reported, the international forum in Tianjin brought together over 30 heads of state and leaders of international organizations. Some were invited by the Chinese host to participate in the SCO Plus format meeting. The Tianjin summit was the largest in the history of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
