"On Point"
MINSK, 22 November (BelTA) – A new meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump could take place before the end of the year, member of the Another Ukraine movement, former member of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada Spiridon Kilinkarov said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“I believe that the agreements reached between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Anchorage still hold and are being implemented before our eyes. It is a difficult process, but some progress has been made. I think we have become much closer to peace,” Spiridon Kilinkarov stated.
The former deputy did not rule out a meeting between the two presidents before year’s end: “It is possible it will be in Budapest. Most likely, Budapest. It will be an interim meeting that will not be able to end the conflict, but it will be a significant step toward peace.”
Spiridon Kilinkarov believes that Donald Trump has gained additional leverage in his dialogue with European partners, who are strongly resisting a resolution. This is due, in part, to the situation on the battlefield in Ukraine and Kiev’s loss of yet more “thousands and thousands of square kilometers.”
“Based on this, they will have to raise a white flag and negotiate. And in negotiations, compromises are always found at the expense of the weaker party. Ukraine is obviously in this situation, so compromises will be sought at its expense,” the former deputy asserted. “It is hard for me to say yet what these compromises will be. But I think this meeting will take place in any case. At the very least, what they conceptually agreed on requires a certain amount of effort and time to fully implement.”
