MINSK, 6 November (BelTA) – Polesie was an important driver and a gem of Belarus, so it would be inhumane to leave it to the mercy of fate, economic analyst, PhD in Economics Georgy Grits said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA's YouTube channel.
Earlier, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko gave instructions to return to the Polesie development program. He made this statement during his working visit to Pinsk District in early October.
"Support of the regions fits into the multi-purpose strategy of the president and the Belarusian government. Support of small towns and agriculture, food security – all this comes together in a kind of a puzzle that brings results," Georgy Grits said.
He pointed out that certain difficulties in the revival of Polesie are related to the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster. "It would be just inhumane to leave the region that was the driver and a gem of Belarus to the mercy of fate. It is not about our people and the leadership of our country," he said.
Georgy Grits also noted that Polesie is to some extent a swampy area where mineral fertilizers and oil can be found. "Moreover, the president said that not all oil deposits have been explored there," the economic analyst added.
