MINSK, 9 November (BelTA) – The conflict in Ukraine may be profitable for the United States of America because it allows exhausting and weakening Europe. Yulia Abukhovich, an expert on economy, head of the educational center Aksios of the Belarusian scientific research and R&D company OAO Giprosvjaz, made the statement in a recent episode of BelTA’s YouTube project On Point.
In a speech at the recent 3rd Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said it was possible that as part of the conflict in Ukraine the USA may be staging a play targeting Russia. According to Yulia Abukhovich, this scenario is possible. Unlike Belarus’ and Russia’s firm stance on the conflict in Ukraine, the stance of the United States of America changes all the time.
“It is possible the USA has no serious intention of ending this conflict. Washington may be lacking the political will. This conflict may be advantageous for Trump among others as a way to exhaust Europe. Because the European Union will be saddled with all the costs of waging this war. And the costs are colossal,” Yulia Abukhovich pointed out. She is confident that the European Union is tired of this conflict although politicians are unwilling to admit it.
Getting back to positions of the parties on the Ukrainian conflict, the expert noted that Moscow remains firm and has no intention of changing its stance. For instance, President of Russia Vladimir Putin has noted that underlying causes of the conflict should be neutralized in order to resolve the conflict in Ukraine in the long run.
“All the rest is a show for anyone you want but not for those, who really wants an end to this war that everyone is tired of. Ordinary civilians in Ukraine are tired of it. Russia is tired of it despite accomplishments and the advance of the combat line. Belarus is tired because this prolonged conflict has affected us as well. For instance, the pressure of sanctions… But the scariest thing is that this war is going on at the border of Belarus,” Yulia Abukhovich stated.
