Expert explains dangers of foreign neural networks

MINSK, 4 November (BelTA) – In some ways, artificial intelligence (AI) is being demonized, but the threats it poses must still be considered, national security expert Aleksandr Tishchenko said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
The expert discussed the level of danger posed by Western AI systems and how to counter it before domestic developments are advanced. “Artificial intelligence is something that is still not well understood by everyone. Perhaps it is being demonized to some extent, but nevertheless, the threats it potentially carries must be taken into account,” he said.

According to Aleksandr Tishchenko, many tasks, including in the military sector, are already being entrusted to AI. “It is becoming, to a certain extent, a subject; many things are already tied to its potential. It is not entirely autonomous but is quite manageable. AI is engaged in data collection. Even by inputting various queries, we are all collectively training it. We are uploading data there that perhaps should not be uploaded in the first place,” he emphasized, referring to the trends of recent years.

AI operates around the clock, even on turned-off gadgets and even when no one is interacting with it, Aleksandr Tishchenko said. “It conducts constant monitoring, processes data, and models scenarios. If it starts making assumptions, it means we need to tighten our control over it. The attempt to let it go in the hope that it will mature on its own and that we can later negotiate with it will not work. Our experience shows that AI is already starting to argue and prove points. It is developing its own platform,” the expert said.

The greatest threat from AI is its ability to change human consciousness and perception, the national security expert pointed out. “Even expert communities sometimes operate using AI-generated narratives. And yet, AI processes vast amounts of information, weighs it, and delivers not what is most relevant, but what is most promoted and presented in a more forceful format. Sometimes, we are losing in this regard. Our perspectives are buried under layers of Western narratives, and AI doesn't even try to retrieve them. It provides superficial answers and assesses these matters superficially. Notice how even popular search engines now feature AI-generated content on the first page. The battle among advertising agencies has always been for the first page and the top spots. Well, AI has now automatically taken over that space,” Aleksandr Tishchenko emphasized.
