MINSK, 22 December (BelTA) – Oreshnik missile systems can deliver huge damage to strategic installations of the adversary. The military expert and political analyst Yakov Kedmi made the relevant statement in a recent episode of BelTA’s YouTube project “V teme” [On point].
Yakov Kedmi said: “In order to understand what Oreshnik is, I will digress. The president of Russia has said that Oreshnik missile systems have entered service with the Russian army. But he said that Oreshnik missile systems have entered service with the strategic forces of the Russian army. In other words, it is absolutely clear that this type of weapons is a strategic type.”
Speaking about Oreshnik’s technical capabilities, the military expert mentioned the effective range of 5,000-6,000km. The missile itself can carry six warheads at a speed that exceeds the speed of sound by ten times. “These are data officially presented by the president of Russia. What he says usually matches the reality. Particularly technical and practical data. These six warheads can fall apart into six explosive munitions each. Oreshnik’s first test was a strike at a strategic installation in Ukraine, at reinforced shops that were under the surface and hardened against serious aerial strikes,” Yakov Kedmi stressed.
The military expert pointed out that Oreshnik’s explosive munitions can bury for more than six meters into the ground. “During the first live test they used conventional munitions. But the weapon system is a strategic one. And strategic weapons use nuclear munitions as a rule. Or most likely thermonuclear ones. Essentially Oreshnik is a medium-range missile system that can deploy a large number of warheads or explosive munitions in order to deliver huge damage to strategic installations,” he concluded.
