MINSK, 23 April (BelTA) – Belarus has secured access to effective, safe and high-quality vaccines and immunological products, Alla Dashkevich, Deputy Chief Physician for Epidemiology of the National Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Public Health, told journalists, BelTA reports.

“Our country has created the necessary conditions to provide people with effective, safe and high-quality immunological drugs. In addition, people in Belarus can get vaccines against those infectious diseases or vaccines using those immunobiological drugs that are not included in the national immunization schedule or are not in the list of vaccinations meant for epidemic control,” said Alla Dashkevich.

“Due to many years of our immunization efforts, we have retained the status of a polio-free country, we have eliminated measles and rubella, and have reached viral hepatitis B control targets. Since 2011, no cases of diphtheria have been registered in the country. Since the same year, there have been no cases of tetanus with the exception of 2020 and 2021 when tetanus was reported in two unvaccinated persons,” the deputy chief physician informed.

European Immunization Week will be running in Belarus from 27 April to 3 May. “This campaign is aimed at raising awareness among the general public and professionals of the importance of vaccinations. Some of the events will take place during  European Immunization Week, some will be held later and throughout the year,” added Alla Dashkevich.
