Expert: BBC scandal over edit of Trump’s speech is hallmark of Western propaganda

MINSK, 13 November (BelTA) – Former Prime Minister of Ukraine (2010-2014) Nikolai Azarov spoke about typical methods and examples of Western propaganda in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
As one such method, Nikolai Azarov pointed to the recent scandal with the BBC, which edited a speech by U.S. President Donald Trump to include statements he never made. The incident led to the resignation of BBC Director General Tim Davie and CEO of BBC News Deborah Turness.

“They aired footage of Trump speaking, making it seem like he was demanding to storm the Capitol immediately, which never happened. The current U.S. administration called it out, and the dishonest executives behind it were fired. But that doesn’t mean they’ll be replaced by principled, honest people. The people there have always fabricated news, and they’ll keep on doing it,” Nikolai Azarov said.

Another example of disinformation was the stream of fakes that circulated throughout the Syria conflict, Nikolai Azarov said. “Remember the case of the boy being carried around in arms after an alleged chemical attack? He later casually explained how he was given a cake and then paraded for the cameras. These are the vile tactics they use,” he concluded.
