MINSK, 2 November (BelTA) – An exhibition of works by Belarusian watercolor artist Gennady Shutov has opened in Paris, BelTA has learned from the Belarusian Embassy in France.
The exhibition is hosted by Galeries Du Diamant and will run through 14 November. The Belarusian Embassy is among its organizers.
Attending the opening ceremony was Belarus' Ambassador to France, Permanent Representative of Belarus to UNESCO Pavel Latushko. He emphasized the importance of giving a greater exposure to Belarusian art outside Belarus. He noted that at the onset of the 20th century natives of Belarus virtually laid a foundation for one of the most famous contemporary art movements - the School of Paris. He also noted that the French public is getting increasingly familiar with Belarusian artists. In 2014-2018, over 100 contemporary Belarusian painters presented their works in France with support of the Belarusian Embassy.
Gennady Shutov (1939-2017) is a famous Belarusian watercolor painter, Merited Artist of Belarus, Holder of the Order of the Badge of Honor, laureate of the Special Prize of the Belarusian president for considerable contribution to modern visual arts. His works can be found in the National Art Museum of Belarus and the world's biggest museums and art galleries, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.
