European officials urged to show empathy towards kids freezing to death at Belarusian-Polish border

MINSK, 10 November (BelTA) – European officials, who are so adamant about criticizing Belarus, should pay serious attention to the situation at the Belarusian-Polish border, BelTA learned from an address sent by the Grodno Oblast branch of the Belarusian Union of Women to European officials.

The address reads: “How can you explain that you feed the fugitives, who tried to stage a coup in Belarus in August 2020, at the expense of your taxpayers and yet you are ready to starve to death those, who flee the war you've started, and let them freeze to death in forests at the border? Where are your European values? Where is humanism? Where is the protection of human rights? The European Union is so adamant about teaching it with sanctions to Belarusians. One starts to wonder why multiple human rights organizations in Europe and America stay silent in the situation with the refugees.”

The address continues: “Why do you keep silent when Polish law enforcement personnel use gas, scare with gun fire and the wail of sirens the defenseless children, women, and families of refugees from Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan right in front of your very eyes? Why can't we hear angry voices complaining about Polish authorities, which blatantly defy international laws, norms and rules, multiple directives and resolutions of the human rights summits that Europeans love so much? Do you even treat these hapless refugees as humans?”

“It is high time to raise your voice in defense of rights of women and children,” the Belarusian Union of Women believes.
