Estonia welcomes Belarus' intention to keep Zapad 2017 army exercise transparent

MINSK, 8 June (BelTA) – Estonia welcomes Belarus' intention to make the Belarusian-Russian strategic army exercise Zapad 2017 as transparent as possible, BelTA learned from Chairman of the National Defense Committee of the Estonian parliament Hannes Hanso.

Hannes Hanso said: “I am happy that Estonia and other countries in our region will be able to send observers to watch the exercise taking place in your territory.” In his words, the Estonian side is interested in the exercise being as transparent as possible.

The Belarusian-Russian strategic army exercise Zapad 2017 is scheduled to take place on 14-20 September. It will represent the final stage in this year's joint training curriculum for the Belarusian and Russian armies. Such exercises are held every two years in Belarus or Russia by the decision of the heads of state. The forthcoming exercise will practice preparing and deploying a military force to ensure the military security of the Union State of Belarus and Russia.
