Eismont: Presidents of Belarus, Russia will meet for informal talks on 14 March

MOSCOW, 14 March (BelTA) - The talks between the presidents of Belarus and Russia, Aleksandr Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin, scheduled for 14 March will be held in an informal setting, press secretary of the Belarusian head of state Natalya Eismont told the media, BelTA learned.

“Today's talks with Vladimir Vladimirovich [Putin, Russian president] have already been announced by our president [during his speech in the Federation Council]. It will be an informal communication, but we don't know any details yet,” Natalya Eismont said.

She recalled that on 13 March, the official talks were held within the framework of the official visit of the Belarusian president to Russia, first one-on-one and then with the participation of the delegations of the two countries. According to the press secretary of the Belarusian leader, a huge range of issues was discussed yesterday, including those related to economy. “But there are some things left for today. If there is an opportunity, we'll share some behind-the-scenes details,” Natalya Eismont said.

The press secretary did not rule out that today's meeting will touch upon the Russian-U.S. contacts, which took place the other day. “I assume that the continuation of Aleksandr Lukashenko’s negotiations with Vladimir Putin may be connected with this matter,” Natalya Eismont added.

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko continues his official visit to the Russian Federation, which is the Belarusian leader’s first foreign visit after his re-election in January 2025. On 14 March, the second day of the visit, the Belarusian head of state addressed the Federation Council, the upper house of the Russian parliament.

As BelTA reported earlier, Aleksandr Lukashenko arrived in Moscow on 13 March. The official talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin took place on the same day. The head of state held a one-on-one meeting which lasted at little more than an hour. Then the agenda of the visit was discussed at a meeting featuring the delegations of the parties.

The Belarusian leader said then that the interaction of the two heads of state would be continued during the current visit. “We have held only a third part of the scheduled talks. We will continue tomorrow, if necessary, and the day after tomorrow to think about prospects. We need to outline them. Time flies and poses many questions for us,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
