Eismont: Belarusian women have someone to rely on

MINSK, 10 March (BelTA) – Belarusian women always have someone to rely on, Natalya Eismont, press secretary of the Belarusian president, told the ONT TV channel, BelTA has learned.

The spokesperson of the head of state answered questions during a media scrum on the sidelines of Aleksandr Lukashenko’s meeting with activists of the Belarusian Women’s Union.

“For many years, the president has described himself as a women’s president. This is mostly because women have always supported him and will certainly keep supporting. He can understand them very well,” said Natalya Eismont. “The way we see the world is largely shaped during our childhood. He was raised by his mother. Teachers were also by his side. The president worked a lot in workplaces where women made up the majority of employees. And he himself says, and we hear this from others that he did an excellent job there,” she said.

Speaking about professional qualities, the press secretary emphasized that the requirements are the same for men and women: “Professionalism is the only criteria to select people for high positions and for working with the head of state.”

Natalya Eismont is confident that women are coming to play an increasingly bigger role in Belarus. A testimony to that, among other things, is the fact that many women were elected to parliament and local councils of deputies during the single voting day; women also work in high positions in the government.

“Another great example is that it is a woman who will become the first cosmonaut in the history of sovereign Belarus and will fly into space soon,” noted Natalya Eismont.

Journalists also asked what she would wish to Belarusian women. “Despite what is happening around, I wish them to live and work calmly, look confidently into the future, and take care of their families. They should remember that they always have someone to rely on,” said the press secretary of the head of state.
