EAEU to launch mobile app to facilitate free travel amid COVID-19

MOSCOW, 21 October (BelTA) – Plans are in place to develop a special mobile application to facilitate free travel of citizens in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Iya Malkina, Aide to the Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, told a press briefing on 21 October, BelTA has learned.

The EAEU is currently working on the COVID-19 Free Travel project of the Eurasian Development Bank. In line with the project, the EAEU will accept COVID-19 PCR negative test taken in one of trusted laboratories of the EAEU member states within three days. Digital solutions will also be developed to keep track of these laboratories and to ensure security of passengers' personal data.

“The project will create a mobile application that will help its users plan their upcoming trip, find the closest laboratory to get tested for COVID-19, and, if needed, provide its results in the form of a QR code in the app,” Iya Malkina explained.

“According to the developers, the project is meant to ensure free cross-border travel of citizens within the EAEU and to stimulate the integration processes in the member states,” she added.
