MOSCOW, 30 April (BelTA) - The countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) agreed to expand cooperation in the outer space activities, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Mikhail Myasnikovich said after the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council held in Kazan on 29-30 April with the participation of Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko, BelTA has learned.
The agenda of the meeting included the implementation of the program "Integrated system of space and geo-information products and services based on national sources of remote sensing data" and the prospects of cooperation between the EAEU member states in the area of space services.
“The big program on space is directly related not only to remote sensing of the Earth and the GLONASS system. It also pertains to increasing the volume of localization, especially in microelectronics, precision mechanics, and optics. The expertise and experience that Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus have at their disposal are used for this project,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said.
He noted that other programs in various areas are being developed within the framework of the EAEU. “We still have a lot of joint programs ahead of us, we have worked them out, and I am very glad that today when discussing issues on the agenda the prime ministers drew attention to the need to deepen cooperation and create new joint companies that will position themselves not only in the domestic EAEU market but also quite actively work with third countries,” said Mikhail Myasnikovich.
