
MOSCOW, 24 February (BelTA) - The first meeting of the joint committee of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Iran is set to take place in Minsk in September 2025, BelTA learned from the trade block of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) following a meeting between Member of the Board (Minister) for Trade of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Andrey Slepnev and Seyed Mohammad Atabak, Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade of Iran in Tehran.
The parties discussed necessary steps to implement the agreement and agreed to work out a roadmap for the development of cooperation in areas of mutual interest. “I believe that the roadmap could include such promising areas as simplification of border customs procedures, industrial cooperation, elimination of technical barriers to trade, cooperation in SPS regulation, e-commerce, digital trade,” the EEC minister for trade said.
The roadmap should be developed ahead of the first meeting of the joint committee, established as an institutional platform to consider any issues related to the operation of a full-fledged free trade agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union and Iran, and also further development of relations between the parties given the recently granted observer status in the EAEU to Iran.
“Andrey Slepnev suggested holding the first meeting of the joint committee in Minsk in September 2025 during the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, in which Iran is set to take part as an observer state,” the EEC noted.
The Eurasia international exhibition is underway in Tehran. The opening ceremony was attended by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Iranian Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade Sayed Mohammad Atabak and EEC Minister for Trade Andrey Slepnev. A meeting of the EEC delegation with Iran's business community, organized jointly with the Tehran Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was held on the sidelines of the exhibition. Attending the meeting were heads of diplomatic missions of the Eurasian Economic Union member states, exhibitors and guests from EAEU countries.
