Durov accused of refusing to cooperate in cyber, financial crime investigations in Telegram

MINSK, 26 August (BelTA) – Pavel Durov in France is accused of the refusal to cooperate in matters relating to cybercrimes and financial crimes committed via the Telegram messaging app, a French police representative told Reuters.

According to the source, Pavel Durov is still in custody. The source also mentioned that the cybercrime division and the fraud counteraction division are investigating his case.

The Telegram founder Pavel Durov was apprehended in the Paris-Le Bourget Airport on 24 August. He may face charges relating to a number of crimes, including distribution of narcotics, crimes against children, money laundering, and frauds. Pavel Durov stands trial as a French citizen and may be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison.
