Director of Minsk-based Hi-Tech Park talks about advancements in artificial intelligence

MINSK, 13 October (BelTA) – The period of sensational news is over, the time of real results has come. Director of the Hi-Tech Park Vsevolod Yanchevsky made the statement as the first expo-forum IT Academgrad “Artificial intelligence in Belarus” opened on 13 October, BelTA has learned.

Vsevolod Yanchevsky said: “Science and technologies represent a foundation for development, value and pride of the country. Any technology goes through several stages. Once something new is invented, there is a feeling of wonder, there are ambitious forecasts and hopes. Then everything becomes routine. As for artificial intelligence, a lot was said about it several years ago. The statements and hopes were so ambitious. But now AI is gradually transitioning to a stage when you can see AI components in any sphere. It seems to me that this period is the most fruitful one. There are fewer sensational news but more practical solutions and real results.”

Scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, representatives of educational institutions, research and development organizations of the country presented their artificial intelligence and robot technology products at the expo. Over 100 projects are on display.

The first expo-forum IT Academgrad “Artificial intelligence in Belarus” has been organized by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Academy's Informatics Institute. The purpose of the forum is development, coordination, and consolidation of cooperation of scientists, specialists of R&D organizations, educational institutions, manufacturing sector, and the information technology industry, who pursue research in the area of artificial intelligence, for the sake of finding effective solutions and working out practical recommendations for applications in various spheres.

The expo-forum has been timed to the Day of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. On 13 October 1928 the Central Executive Committee and the Council of People's Commissars of the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic (BSSR) passed a resolution on converting the Belarusian Culture Institute into the Belarusian Academy of Sciences.
