MINSK, 3 November (BelTA) – The Belarusian Transport and Communications Ministry has revealed some details of the An-12 aircraft crash near the Russian city of Irkutsk, BelTA has learned.
An Antonov-12BK aircraft (tail number EW-518TI) crashed near the village of Pivovarikha at 11:34 on 3 November while flying in complicated weather conditions (sleet, icy rain) after missing an approach to the Irkutsk airport.
An experienced crew was flying the aircraft. It included seven people: two citizens of Russia, two citizens of Ukraine, and three citizens of Belarus. The pilot-in-command had total flight experience of over 12,000 hours, including over 7,000 hours of flying An-12 aircraft.
There was no cargo on board.
The Interstate Aviation Committee (an executive body of the CIS Civil Aviation and Airspace Use Council) will set up a commission to investigate the flight accident. Representatives of the Aviation Department of the Belarusian Transport and Communications Ministry will be part of the commission.
