Demolition of monuments in West seen as attempt to impose new values

MINSK, 7 February (BelTA) - Western politicians who destroy Soviet monuments in the West are trying to disorientate their people and sell a new system of values, Vasily Gursky, Chief Academic Secretary of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA's YouTube channel.

Vasily Gursky noted that Belarus and Russia, unlike Western countries, people do not fight with monuments, but restore them and build new ones. As an example, he cited the recent ceremony to unveil the memorial to commemorate Soviet civilian victims of the Nazi genocide during the Great Patriotic War in Leningrad Oblast. The event was attended by the presidents of Belarus and Russia.

"Western countries are now actively destroying the monuments in an attempt to disorientate their people and sell their own system of values. Western politicians are trying to turn their people into puppets who, lacking values and moral guidelines, are ready to carry out any orders from the financial elite and those in power," Vasily Gursky said.

According to the academic secretary, politicians of Western countries are making a big mistake, because the society, which has no moral compass, loses its stability. "The society deprived of spiritual values will drown in vices," Vasily Gursky said.
