BREST, 28 April (BelTA) - Delegations from Latvia, Slovakia, and Germany will participate in the celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the Victory of Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War, Head of the department of culture of the Brest City Executive Committee Lubov Klimovets told BelTA.
Brest has prepared an extensive Victory Day program, with a variety of events leading up to 9 May. Participating in the event will be not only residents of Brest, but also visitors from other regions of Belarus and international guests. Delegations from Latvia, Slovakia, Germany, and regions of Russia have confirmed their participation. Hotel rooms in the city have been booked months in advance for the May holidays.
“The main celebrations will be held at Lenin Square, including a Victory Day parade and the march of the participants of the ‘Belarus Remembers, We Remember Everyone’ campaign. A ceremony of laying flowers will be held at the Eternal Flame and hero city plaques in Brest Fortress, accompanied by a rally. Various venues across the city will host events on 9 May,” Lubov Klimovets said.
For instance, exhibitions organized by the Maksim Gorky Brest Oblast Library and the Brest Oblast Local Lore Museum will be displayed on Sovetskaya Street. Creative groups will perform at the amphitheater stage in the city's park of culture and recreation.
“In the evening, everyone is invited back to Brest Fortress for a festive concert, culminating in the ‘Let's Sing the Victory Song Together’ campaign. A spectacular fireworks display will mark the grand finale of celebrations,” Lubov Klimovets added.
Preparations for Victory Day are underway throughout Brest Oblast, with public transport banners, thematic billboards, photo zones and murals appearing in cities and towns. “Special attention is being given to popular locations, pedestrian streets, train stations, and shopping centers to immerse people in historical events and instill pride in the courageous acts of those who contributed to the Victory over fascism,” Lubov Klimovets concluded.
