Delegate: Regional development is among Belarus' five-year priorities

MOGILEV, 3 February (BelTA) - One of the priorities in the development of the Belarusian state within the next five years will be the strengthening of regions, delegate to the 6th Belarusian People's Congress, MP of the House of Representatives Svetlana Shutova told BelTA.

“Regional development will be one of the priorities of Belarus' five-year development plan. Over the years of independence a lot has been done in this area, including in my constituency. We can see that life in Osipovichi, Klichev and Glusk has become better. However, we still have some work to do. All these aspects have been taken into account in Belarus' new development program,” said Svetlana Shutova.

Svetlana Shutova believes that housing construction is an important part of regional development. “This will stimulate young specialists to come to small towns. Our regions have a strong base but lack enough professional young people. They come to the town, work there the period of time they have to and leave. It is necessary to make every effort, create all necessary conditions and develop infrastructure in small towns. This is the way we can solve the problem with the outflow of young people,” she said.

“Our country has developed and continues to successfully implement a lot of programs, for example, in the family policy. The new program provides for all of this as well. With the creation of all conditions, large manufacturing and food industries will be able to come to small regions and set up their branches there. This means new jobs and decent wages. This will be a new impetus for the regions and the country in general,” the delegate said.

Svetlana Shutova added that special attention should be paid to remote regions. “It is most difficult for those who are quite far from the regional centers. We have to create all necessary and modern living conditions for residents: good communications, accessible and high-quality healthcare services, shopping facilities, necessary infrastructure. We can already see that the work is underway in this direction. It is important to keep it going,” she emphasized.
