MINSK, 20 February (BelTA) - This year, we recorded cases of violations of the rules for using the airspace of Belarus, Commander of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces of the Armed Forces Andrei Lukyanovich told the media before a ceremonial meeting dedicated to the Defenders of the Fatherland and Armed Forces Day of the Repuplic of Belarus at the Palace of the Republic, BelTA has learned.
“Already this year, we have recorded a significant number of violation of the rules for using airspace, involving a violation of the state border as well. This included the use of combat force: our forces scrambled aircraft, and we employed anti-aircraft missile troops to destroy unmanned aerial vehicles,” Andrei Lukyanovich said.
He pointed out that the Day of Fatherland Defenders and the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus is a special day in the history of our country. “It unites the generation of older defenders of the Fatherland, who with weapons in hand defended freedom and independence and who are a moral compass for us, and the generation of those who stand on combat duty today, those who carry out combat alert tasks and ensure peace and calm in our country,” he said.
Andrei Lukyanovich drew attention to the fact that the head of state has repeatedly emphasized that the army is not an instrument of aggression, but a shield that must be reliable and strong. “These words of the president very clearly reflect the philosophy of the development of our Armed Forces. They must be strong, combat-ready, mobile, and ready at any moment to counter external aggression. This is why we have modern weapons and professionally trained personnel,” the Commander of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces noted. “We see how tense the military-political situation in the world is. Today, it is the strong who are respected. No one respect the weak. And Belarus is a strong country.”
