Defense Ministry explains goals of unscheduled combat readiness inspections

MINSK, 30 June (BelTA) – Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, First Deputy Defense Minister, Major-General Pavel Muraveiko went on the air of the Belarusian TV channel ONT and explained goals of unscheduled combat readiness inspections, BelTA has learned.

Pavel Muraveiko said: “A combat readiness inspection is one of the forms of training army units. Today the world and processes relating to the military political situation, strategic situation, and even tactical situation are changing very rapidly. The training system the Belarusian army has established relies on moving from simple to complicated matters and practicing various steps on a schedule.” An unscheduled inspection gives an opportunity to look at how these steps will be practiced in conditions that resemble a critical situation as much as possible.

“By organizing these inspections, we intend to accomplish a number of goals. First of all, we look into unconventional thinking of commanding officers, which units are affected by the inspection. In other words, we see the stars, who will be promoted up the ladder later on and who will be capable of leading army units later on,” the officer explained.

“Secondly, we clearly identify the shortcomings that the conventional training system contains. We haven’t scrapped the system and never will because it is of fundamental nature but any foundation must be checked by pouring water on it. So, these inspections are nothing but a test of how this foundation survives the test of time,” Pavel Muraveiko summarized.
