MINSK, 5 July (BelTA) – Despite the difficult situation on its southern border, Belarus is not doing and will not do anything to escalate it, Head of the Directorate - Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Belarus Vladimir Kupriyanyuk told reporters at a briefing, BelTA has learned.

“The forces and means of the Armed Forces, together with other military units and formations are working to beef up security along the southern border. For this, mixed groups of forces are undertaking joint training to be better prepared to respond to possible provocations and incidents,” said Vladimir Kupriyanyuk.

According to the deputy chief of the General Staff, in order to protect critical roads, combined arms units are set to practice various maneuvers with the support of missile forces, artillery, and combat aviation. In order to protect critical government and military facilities from the air, air defense forces and means on duty have been augmented and additional electronic warfare units have been deployed,” he emphasized.

In order to monitor the situation, unmanned aircraft and ground-based surveillance and control systems are widely used, which makes it possible to continuously monitor the situation on the border and to promptly respond to any changes. Military units of almost all types and branches are involved in these activities on a rotational basis.

“The operational response system that has been built allows maintaining the military security of our state 24/7. We believe that we will be heard and we will be able to prevent further escalation. The bottomline is that despite the difficult situation on the southern border we are not fueling tensions and will not do this. We, together with our allies, will definitely respond to any attempts of provocative actions. I am confident that common sense will prevail,” Vladimir Kupriyanyuk added.
