MINSK, 18 May (BelTA) – Belarus is not getting involved in the arms race. The principle of the necessary sufficiency will be observed. Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin made the statement on the air of the TV channel Belarus One, BelTA has learned.
Reporters asked the Belarusian defense minister to comment on the news that the European Union will allocate nearly €2 billion out of Russia’s frozen assets to Kiev for the sake of buying ammunition, missiles, and drones.
“In his speech the president told us to reinforce the defensive capability and the combat readiness of our Armed Forces. This is how we will respond,” the official said.
Asked to clarify whether approaches to military spending will be changed, Viktor Khrenin stated: “No, we are not going to get involved in the arms race. We will proceed from the need to have the weapons that are in demand in the battlefield today. It has been said more than once. The principle of the necessary sufficiency will be clearly observed.”
