Deal for total secrecy. What’s happening in the Ukraine peace talks?

MINSK, 28 January (BelTA) - The parties have agreed to keep everything secret, Russian military observer of the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper, Colonel (retired) Viktor Baranets said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel as he commented on the progress of negotiations to settle the Ukrainian conflict.
According to Viktor Baranets, much of what is talked about in the Ukraine peace talks remains out of public view. “What is actually happening in the talks? That is indeed a very deep and ‘crater-like’ question. Neither Moscow nor Kiev are conceding their positions. That’s the state of things. Perhaps they have agreed on some minor points somewhere. For example, prisoner exchanges. And that is moving along slowly, but that’s not the main issue. The main issue is the Russian ultimatum presented back in 2022,” he outlined.

The military commentator noted that Ukraine has shown blatant disregard for agreements on various matters. “There was talk that there should be no foreign troops on Ukrainian territory, but Zelensky couldn’t care less about these demands. We say the country should be nuclear-free - again, couldn’t care less,” he said.

“The negotiations are proceeding with great difficulty, extreme difficulty. One thing is known: the parties have agreed to keep everything secret, not to disclose the results of the talks,” the expert concluded.
