MOSCOW, 20 May (BelTA) - Large-scale Days of Minsk Oblast officially kicked off in Moscow on 20 May. The event continues a series of presentations of the Belarusian regions that were launched early this year in the Belarus Pavilion at VDNKh at the initiative of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, BelTA has learned.
The regions of Brest, Vitebsk, Gomel, Grodno and Mogilev have already presented their potential at the main Russian exhibition venue. The Days of Minsk Oblast will be running until 2 June.
"Minsk Oblast is the heart of Belarus," Governor of Minsk Oblast Aleksandr Turchin said when opening the presentation. He cited Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko who said that Minsk Oblast largely determines the development of Belarus as a whole. "Minsk Oblast is a mini-Belarus, and this, probably, says it all, because Minsk Oblast is a significant contributor to the national indicators."
The manufacturing sector is the region’s economic driver. Minsk Oblast is home to more than 4,000 industrial enterprises with a total number of employees of more than 130,000 people. Minsk Oblast contributes a fifth of the national industrial output, almost 30% of the total agricultural output, a quarter of investments and from 25 to 30% of housing construction, the governor said.
"We welcome growing cooperation with Russia, our main partner," Aleksandr Turchin stressed. "Last year, the trade with the Russian Federation amounted to about $9 billion. Not every country can boast of such volumes."
