MINSK, 23 September (BelTA) - The Prosecutor General's Offices of Belarus and Cuba have common interests such as fight against crime and monitoring the compliance with the law, Cuban Attorney General Yamila Pena Ojeda said during a flower ceremony on Victory Square in Minsk, BelTA has learned.
"Relations between the Prosecutor General's Offices of the two countries, the relations between our countries in politics, economy, trade and culture are exceptional. We have common interests: the fight against crime and monitoring the of compliance with the law," Yamila Pena Ojeda said.
"Although our visit is short, it is quite eventful. First of all, I would like to note that working cooperation with the Prosecutor General's Office of Belarus goes way back. Since 2013, when the cooperation program between our agencies was signed, we have held joint events and exchanged experience. During this period of time, a number of Belarusian delegations visited Cuba, Cuban delegations traveled to Belarus. During this visit, we took the opportunity and signed another program of cooperation between the Prosecutor General's Offices of the two countries for the period 2025-2026," Yamila Pena Ojeda added.
She noted that the delegation of the Prosecutor General's Office of Cuba visited the institutions of the Prosecutor General's Office of Belarus and made sure that they are many things in common. "There are many young prosecutors and good training programs, which makes the basis for the development of cooperation, the purpose of which is to enforce the rule of law in our countries," Yamila Pena Ojeda emphasized.
According to her, during the visit, they once again enlisted the support of the Belarusian side. Soon Cuba will present another resolution condemning the illegal blockade that the United States has imposed against Cuba. One of the difficult moments was the inclusion of Cuba in the list of countries sponsoring terrorism, with which the country categorically disagrees. "These are the common topics that we have on the agenda. There are also the things that we will continue to work on in order to ensure high-quality training of our prosecutors."
Yamila Pena Ojeda noted that Victory Square, where the flower ceremony took place, is an important place which has a special meaning for the Belarusian people. The ceremony was attended not only by delegations of the Prosecutor General's Offices, but also by students of the legal classes from the educational institutions of Minsk and Senitsa. "It was absolutely impossible not to visit a place that has a historical significance for your country. It is important to always remember and honor history, and the people who fought for the peaceful future of their country. The preservation of history is also instrumental for strengthening peace, sovereignty, independence and security of any country," Yamila Pena Ojeda stressed.
"All this makes us think about the struggle that Cuba has been leading for 65 years against the pressure exerted on our country. In addition, it was a great joy for us to meet with young people, students who are planning to connect their lives with the prosecutorial profession in the future," Yamila Pena Ojeda summed up.
