MINSK, 28 July (BelTA) - Cuba is the gateway to Latin America for Belarusian producers, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Cuba to Belarus Santiago Perez Benitez told reporters in Minsk on 28 July, BelTA has learned.
"Relations between Belarus and Cuba are quite strong. We cooperate across a wide range of issues. Today we will visit the National Academy of Sciences to discuss specific projects. We really like the Belarusian approach to science. This is the approach that we are trying to implement in Cuba today. We aim for cooperation in R&D and manufacturing industry,” Ambassador Santiago Perez Benitez noted. “We must maintain relations between our countries at the high level. We need to consolidate them and take them further, cooperate in healthcare, science, transport technologies."
"Cuba is the gateway for Belarusian producers to Latin America," the ambassador said. “For us, Belarus is the gateway to the Eurasian Economic Union. We take a strategical approach to the relations with Belarus that is a fraternal country for us," he added.
The House of Representatives is hosting a delegation of Cuba's Center for the State Control of Medicines, Equipment and Medical Devices (CECMED) and the Finlay Institute of Vaccines headed by Vicente Vérez Bencomo, the developer of the Cuban vaccine against COVID-19, Deputy of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba, Hero of the Republic of Cuba. The parties are set to discuss the prospects for bilateral cooperation in medicine and the use of the Cuban vaccines against COVID-19 Soberana and Soberana Plus in Belarus.
