MINSK, 26 June (BelTA) – Joint clinical drug trials with Belarus is a promising area of cooperation, Cuba President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez said during a meeting with representatives of Belarus’ pharmaceutical sector held at the Belmedpreparaty enterprise on 25 June, BelTA has learned.
“If we join forces and conduct clinical trials together, we can make greater progress in regulatory matters. And we will be able to achieve better results through our cooperation. This is one of the areas we need to continue developing,” Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez stressed.

The Cuban president also noted that both Belarus and Cuba are committed to improving quality of life and public well-being.

He remarked that in today’s world and current conditions, regulatory agencies, particularly in the West, are under pressure from transnational corporations that are not interested in effective medications. These companies follow a different approach, driven by commercial gain. As a result, whenever a new drug emerges that proves effective in treating a disease, they block it.

Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez believes that Belarus and Cuba can establish a joint pharmaceutical production and research bloc, with a focus on the Eurasian Economic Union, Europe, and the Latin American and Caribbean region.

He also expressed confidence that joint efforts in this area will yield results. He emphasized that both countries have strong healthcare systems with high performance indicators. Both adhere to a humane approach that addresses the core needs of their populations.

Belarus’ Healthcare Minister Aleksandr Khodzhayev stated that Belarus holds the same views as Cuba and is ready to implement its ideas. He explained that Belarus’ healthcare system has preserved the best practices in patient care and medical service delivery. “Thanks to the president, we have maintained free medical care for our population. Nowadays, it is modern and effective, which is also due to the president’s close attention. We provide high-quality, accessible healthcare to our citizens. Cuba has a similar system. We have much in common. We are ready to move forward side by side in pharmaceutical supply and other areas. I am confident in positive results,” Aleksandr Khodzhayev said.
