CSTO reviews key military, security developments in 2023-2025

MOSCOW, 15 December (BelTA) - The Collective Security Treaty Organization has published the full text of the CSTO secretary general’s report on the organization’s activities in 2023-2025 on its official website. The document was presented to the heads of state at the session of the CSTO Collective Security Council in Bishkek, BelTA learned from the CSTO press service.

The report provides a comprehensive analysis of the CSTO’s work over the three-year period, reflecting the implementation of the priorities of the chairmanship of Belarus (2023), Kazakhstan (2024), and Kyrgyzstan (2025).

The key results of the CSTO’s activities in 2023-2025 cover several areas. In strengthening the military component, the number of Collective Rapid Reaction Forces has been increased, the command and logistics system has been optimized, and 20 joint exercises of various formats have been conducted. Military-technical cooperation and the training of military personnel continue to develop.

In countering modern challenges and threats, the CSTO successfully carried out a series of anti-drug operations under the codename Channel. Efforts to combat illegal migration (Illegal) and terrorism (Mercenary) were intensified. Cooperation in cybersecurity also expanded.

In strengthening borders and regional security, the CSTO approved and launched the implementation of a targeted interstate program to reinforce the Tajik-Afghan border. The program is a response to security challenges in Central Asia and aims to assist the Republic of Tajikistan in protecting its southern frontiers.

The CSTO’s peacekeeping potential also developed. In particular, an updated regulatory framework was approved, creating conditions for CSTO peacekeeping contingents to participate in UN operations. The first independent deployment of a national contingent (Kazakhstan) took place in the mission on the Golan Heights.

Political cooperation deepened through improved coordination with the UN, CIS, and SCO. A roadmap for developing cooperation among the three organizations was signed. Interparliamentary cooperation within the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly also expanded.

Information and analytical activities advanced as well: cooperation with expert and academic centers in CSTO member states was established, and a conceptual analytical report titled “Greater Eurasian Partnership: Shared Responsibility for a Secure Future” was prepared.
