CSTO law enforcers meet in Tajikistan

MINSK, 12 August (BelTA) – Representatives of Belarus' Internal Affairs Ministry took part in a meeting of the working group on anti-drug operations under the CSTO coordination council of the heads of the competent authorities to counteract illegal drug trafficking in Tajikistan, BelTA has learned from the Internal Affairs Ministry.
The participants analyzed the situation in the region and discussed a joint strategy to combat money laundering.
"The integration of the drug market into the internet and the use of crypto-currencies for payments requires law enforcement agencies to provide effective assistance to each other with idenitificaiton of criminals. Due to the increase in methamphetamine production in Afghanistan, we predict a growth in its transit via the Northern and Caspian routes to the CSTO countries and the EU, which requires timely response," said Vadim Volchok, the head of the second section of the first division with the Main Department for Drug Control and Combating Human Trafficking at the Interal Affairs Minsitry.
The participants discussed all the issues in detail while planning the stages of the Kanal sub-regional anti-drug operation.
